Filipino Martial Arts Concepts:
Jordan Aguilar started his Martial Arts training in 1996 under Curtis Abernathy in the American Kenpo Karate System. After 8 years of Kenpo, Jordan became interested in the Chinese Martial Arts, specifically Shaolin Kung Fu. In 2006, Jordan met Sifu (Instructor) Gilbert Leal and began to study both Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Wing Chun Kung Fu. Under Sifu Leal Jordan also had the pleasure of training in the arts of Pencak Silat Mande Muda (Indonesia), Yang Style Taiji Quan, Sun Style Taiji Quan, and Inosanto Blend Kali (Filipino Martial Arts.)
After briefly studying Inosanto Blend Kali, Jordan became fascinated with the Filipino Martial Arts. With a desire to learn as much as possible, Jordan decided to attend the 2007 Texas Kali Mastery Camp instructed by Leslie Buck Jr., Erwin Ballarta, Renee Rodriguez, Rudy Salazar and the instructors of the Texas Kali Association. It was at the Mastery Camp that Jordan was introduced to the Pekiti Tirsia Kali System and became inspired to study and explore the Filipino Martial Arts as much as possible.
In 2008, Sifu Leal promoted Jordan to 1st Degree Black Belt in Wing Chun Kung Fu and 1st Degree Black Belt in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, and in 2009 Jordan was promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Later that year, Jordan moved to St. Paul, MN, to pursue a Bachelor’s of Music in Percussion Performance at McNally Smith College of Music, though he continued to study the Pekiti Tirsia Kali System under Guro (Instructor) Doug Marsh, Chief Instructor of the FMA Defense Combatives Group (formerly LST Tactical Systems). Under the direction of Guro Doug, Jordan formed and operated the ‘Pekiti Tirsia Kali Student Organization’ training group at his college.
After receiving his Bachelor’s in Percussion Performance, Jordan returned to San Antonio and began assisting Doug Marsh with his training group and special events. In 2015 Jordan was promoted to the rank of Guro in the FMA Defensive Combatives Methodology by Doug. Jordan has had the pleasure of training with both practitioners and instructors in several systems of Filipino Martial Arts including Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Babao Arnis, Modern Arnis, Latosa Escrima, Inosanto Blend Kali, and Garimot Arnis.
Jordan currently studies Remy Presas Modern Arnis privately under Troy Wilson, American Kenpo Karate under Todd Agers and Troy Wilson, as well as Pedro Sauer Brazilian JiuJitsu under Roland Malone. Jordan has close ties with the Texas Kali Association and is a direct affiliate with the FMA Defensive Combatives Group.
